Why Social Media?
Using Social Media as a form of communication and to showcase our work will be a great addition to the operations of the school. It will ensure the school can contact pupils and parents much faster and easier when there is important news that needs to be announced.
St. Monica’s realises that social networking websites can have a negative side too. We understand that some parents may not want their child to have any of these accounts for a variety of reasons. However, we feel that by having our own presence on such sites, we can encourage positive use of this media.
Social Networking has sky-rocketed in recent years and most school pupils and parents have their own accounts. It would be difficult to try to persuade pupils not to have these accounts so we will try to encourage positive use, and by having our own pages, we can ensure that there is only one official St. Monica’s account for each of the above websites.
We want the use of social networking to have a positive effect on our pupils and so we encourage that students don’t post inappropriate comments or tweets. If so then action will be taken.
Finally, pupils and parents should ALWAYS ensure that their account privacy settings are set to the appropriate level.
Therefore, ‘Subscribe’, ‘Follow’ and ‘Like’ us.
Our YouTube channel includes videos made in school by pupils in various lessons. All videos are made as part of certain projects in lessons so see for yourself.
Our Facebook page allows pupils and parents to ‘like’ us and as a result they will get updates and announcements about the school via our page or wall updates. Again, announcements such as severe weather warnings, school closures, open evenings and parent’s evenings will be made on the website but we will also update our Facebook status to include them in order to give people immediate updates.
Our Twitter account allows pupils and parents to follow us for latest updates about the school. Announcements such as severe weather warnings, school closures, open evenings and parent’s evenings will be made on the website but we will also tweet them through our Twitter account to give our followers immediate updates.
