Curriculum
At St Monica’s we are proud of the curriculum we offer to our pupils.
In line with our school mission statement we aim to develop our pupils God given talents to the full so they are prepared to make a difference in the world.
We have carefully sequenced our curriculum to enable students to progress in their learning at an appropriate pace, supporting them to know more and remember more.
Each individual subject area has a detailed curriculum overview which outlines the sequence of learning within their subject. There are learning journeys which help visualise when learning will take place and knowledge organisers to support the key knowledge being exposed to the pupils each half term.
Pupils are split into two equal academic bands on arrival at St Monica’s. The pupils follow a programme of study which meets the requirements of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) covering all required Core and Foundation subjects.
During Year 9 pupils make choices, leading to a tailored curriculum at Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11). Pupils are then examined in these courses at the end of Year 11 with formal external examinations.
