The English Department also leads an active life around the school by offering extra-curricular activities. The department organises trips to local and national theatres to allow pupils to broaden their knowledge of the subject and the world around them; these include trips to the renowned Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.

Debate clubs are held amongst all years, where students represent the school at local and national events. Furthermore, the department is involved in 'Student Mock Trials', where students compete against other schools. After practices held in school, students are invited to Rochdale Magistrates Court, where they take part in a 'mock trial', whereby different students take on different roles within the legal system.
