In the department, at GCSE pupils complete English Language and Literature with the AQA examination board.
Pupils in Year 7 and 8 will complete assessments throughout the year. In Year 9 pupils begin their GCSE studies, where controlled assessments take place which are a part of the examination process; these take place at various times throughout Year 9/10/11.
As well as assessments within the department, and controlled assessments which the school sets the dates for, there are a range of external examinations held. These are the dates for those exams this summer:
Year 11
English Language (re-sit): Monday 16th May 2011 (a.m. 1hr 45mins).
Wednesday 18th May 2011 (pm. 1hr 30mins).
English Literature: Tuesday 24th May 2011 (a.m. 1hr 45mins).
Year 10
Year 10 will be taking their first examination for their English GCSE, based upon poetry; this will be the first exam they will have completed with the new specification.
English Literature (poetry): Wednesday 8th June (a.m. 1hr 30mins).
