
The department offers a phenomenal amount of extra-curricular opportunities with clubs running before school, at lunchtimes, after school and on Saturday mornings. The department sees extra-curricular sport and activities as a fundamental aspect of the growth of the whole child. To see young people growing in physical skills, self confidence and self worth is a truly enriching experience. Nowhere in school is it more evident that in PE.
The department prides itself on offering a wide range of activities and its success in inter-school competition. During the year 2003-4, an outstanding 390 pupils represented the school in extra-curricular activities. This is the equivalent of 1 in 3 pupils. The school competes in local borough competitions and the Greater Manchester Competitions (County and Catholic) with great success. During the year 2003-4, the school achieved two County titles in the schools major sports of football and netball. St. Monica's is established as one of the strongest footballing schools with teams competing in over 100 fixtures each year and the schools reputation within netball locally and regionally is also outstanding.
The department also organises a gymnastics and dance display that normally involves 80-90 pupils. Money raised from this highly successful event recently bought a new trampoline.
