Michael Jordan


Michael is one of the greatest basketball players of all time.  He was born on February 17, 1963 and in 1981 he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina.  During his time here he not only improved his basketball playing but he also studied (and graduated in) cultural geography.  After this he went on to play for the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards.  He is also famous for the Nike Air Jordan trainers.  Today he is an active businessman.

Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE


Sir Matthew is one of Great Britain's greatest Olympians.  He is English rowing champion and a four-time Olympic gold medallist.  Before this he studied Geography at St Catherine's College (which is part of Oxford University).  Sir Matthew now works as a journalist and sports presenter.

Nicholas Hodgson


Nicholas is the drummer, backing vocalist and principal song writer of the English indie band 'The Kaiser Chiefs.' Before hitting the big time with the band Nicholas studied Geography at Trinity and All Saints College in Horsforth, Leeds.

Prince William


Prince William was born on 21 June, 1982.  He is currently second in line to the throne.  As part of his schooling he attended Eton College.  Here he studied Geography, biology, maths and art history at A-level.  After finishing school he took a gap year.  During this time he took part in army training exercises in Beliza and taught children in a small town in Chile.  Prince William then went on to study at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.  His main subject was Geography and he went on to earn a Scottish Masters of Arts degree with upper second class honours in Geography.

Michael Palin CBE


Michael Palin CBE was born on 5 May, 1943.  He ius most famous for being part of the comedy group, Monty Python.  After an illustrious career as a comedian, actor and writer, Michael turned his attention to making travel documentaries.  His travels have taken him across the world, the North and South Poles, the Sahara Desert, the Himalayas, and most recently, Eastern Europe.  At present Michael is working with the GA (Geographical Association) to try and promote the importance of Geography.

Charles Darwin


Charles Darwin was born 12 Feruary, 1809.  He was a famous British scientist who laid the foundations of the Theory of Evolution and he is responsible for altering the way people perceive the natural world.  He travelled extensively and documented his travels and his findings in a series of journals.  He became know as travel writer after his journals were published and he spoke at length about the geographical distribution of wildlife and fossils.
