It has been another wonderful sporting year for the school with success both within Bury and Greater Manchester in a variety of sporting competitions. Over 400 pupils represented the school in sport this year and the gymnastics and dance display was again an undoubted success with its highest ever number of participants. Lucy Timperley was voted Sports Personality of the Year at the Year 11 dinner and highlight of the year was the Department being voted Secondary School PE Department of the Year at the annual Bury Sports Awards for its continued dedication to the school sport and its outstanding success in extra-curricular activities.
Football
The Year 8 team retained its Bury Metro Cup Trophy beating Bury Church in the final for the second year running. The Year 9 boys again were victorious in the Bury 5-a-side winning the competition for a second successive year. Despite leading in both matches the Year 11 team lost out in the Catholic and Bury finals losing to St Damien's and Bury Church. The Year 10's lost to St Matthew's in their Catholic semi final and the Year 9's were defeated by Derby in the Bury semi final.
The school completed over 100 fixtures again this season. In their respective age groups William Timperley, Joseph Hughes, Sam Smith, Connor McCallion, Tom Scoble and Luke Seymour were selected to represent the Borough of Bury.

NETBALL
It has been another busy netball season with the girl's competing in both weekday and Saturday morning fixtures. The Year 11 team have shone this season and enjoyed plenty of successes; they were Manchester and District Champions, County Tournament Runners Up and National School Finalists. To finish a great season, the girls were voted Team of the Year at the Sportman Dinner. The Year 7 team have made a great start to their time here by winning the Bury Rally and reaching the finals of the County Tournament. Year 8, 9 and 10 have competed strongly in Bury and Manchester Competitions with the Year 9 team coming runners-up in the Bury League and the Year 10 runners up in the Rally.

The Year 11 team reached the play off semi final before losing eventually to champion's Derby High. Both of the Year 10 and Year 9 teams had reasonable seasons, the Year 9's losing out in overtime in their promotion play off against Parrenthorn and the Year 10's were defeated in their divisional semi final. The Year 7 and Year 8 teams gained valuable experience in the Bury Rally's and the Year 8's defeated Cardinal Langley before losing to St Peter's in the Catholic Cup.

This season we have completed in League and Cup competitions within Bury. The Year 8 team had definite potential coming runners-up in the outdoor league even beating the eventual winners, Woodhey. The senior hockey team were beaten in the semi-final of the cup by Bury Grammar and were runners up in the indoor league.

CROSS COUNTRY
It has been a successful year for both our individual and team runners in both the Catholic and Bury championships. Our year 10 and 11 girl's team won the Bury Championship, with individual success for Jessica Hindley coming first and Alicia Moss coming third. The year 8 and 9 boy's team and the year 7 boys and girls team, were also placed third in both age groups in the Bury competition. Caitlin Healey had individual success by coming third in the year 8 and 9 girl's event.
In the Catholic competition the year 8 and 9 boy's team fought hard to win their age group. The year 7 boys came second and the year 10 and 11 girl's team came third. Jessica Hindley and Caitlin Healey both came third in their age groups.

As well as competing in the annual Bury and Catholic Schools meetings teh school also competed in the English Schools Event. The under 13 boys qualified for the North West Regional Finals from their Greater Manchester heat where they finished as runners-up.
The rounders teams compete in both Bury and Manchester Competitions. The year 8 team were winners of the Catholic Tournament while years 7, 9 and 10 were all semi-finalists. The Bury Rally's will be competed for at a later date.
The year 8s have been the schools most successful cricket team advancing to the semi-final stage of the Bury and Manchester Competitions.

Gym, Dance and Trampoline Display
Yet another successful year for the gym display, we now have more pupils, from all year groups and of all abilities involved. The theme this year included music and dances from around the world and we have seen some very traditional and cultural pieces of Indian and Irish dances to name a few. The pupils exceeded all expectations and produced some jaw dropping performances. Our senior pupils were outstanding in all their performances and will be missed next year, however it is very encouraging to see the number of young talented gymnasts, dancers and trampoliners we have progressing through the school. A truly entertaining event and we are looking forward to next year.
